PS. I Love You

Ever thought about going through and living life after losing someone near and dear to your heart? Ever wondered about how to survive each day without having your loved one by your side, without hearing his/her words and without his/her comforting presence? We often take our loved ones for granted, always assuming that they will be there all the time. We see them everyday until we don't really 'see' them anymore, we complain they nag us and restrict us; but we never stop to think - 'What would I do without this person in my life?'

Ps. I Love You by Cecilia Ahern tells us of a story of a young woman who lost her husband; the man she has been with every day of her life for the past 15 years. It tells us of her struggle to continue living her life without her soulmate by her side, sharing her every thought and dreams. It also tells us of how she learns to live her life for herself, not for the ghost of her husband and how to appreciate and treasure each memory they had together while not being afraid to make some more.

It is wonderful indeed how the author has managed to convey emotions through her words - happy, exciting, sad, heart-wrenching. The tale sweeps you off your feet and you find yourself crying and laughing together with Holly as she slowly finds her way and learns how to live again in the first year after her husband's passing. An eye-opener and a joy to read; it is a change from romantic, sappy love stories and shows you a new perspective on life.

Dinner @ Bumbu Bali

We visited Bumbu Bali last Tuesday on our way back from work. There were lots of reviews of this place online so we thought to give it a try and see for ourselves.

This is the drink we ordered - it was honeydew + mint + honey. Quite a nice combination at first, but somehow after awhile it began to taste like cough or flu syrup to me. Hehehe, maybe it was the mint!

This was the grilled dory fish with yummy garlic mashed potatoes.. yumm.. it was grilled to perfection and the marination was excellent indeed.

I think this is one of the specials and a crowd favourite - Nasi Campur Bali. There were lots of things - fish, squids, but our favourite was the beef rendang. It was sooo tender and tasted absolutely heavenly! The kangkung belacan was pretty good too. See the 'satay' on the serai (lemongrass)? That was pretty good too as you could taste the flavour of the serai stick in the seafood satay. Yummm..

Overall I would say the place has a pretty good ambience. Unfortunately, upstairs was closed so we couldn't go there - apparently it's much more romantic up there. Hehehe. Overall, it was a pretty good dining experience.

Wonderful Bangkok

It was a first trip to Bangkok for me.. haven't been a tourist for a long time :) We did touristy things and tried the local food - the tom yam was yum yummm...

The 'elephants' at the Summer Palace

There were so many flowers at the Summer Palace... beautiful. Appreciated by one who has 'brown' fingers.. hehee

After the Summer Palace, we went to the ruins of the old city - Ayutthaya. There's JS trying to fit into the environment

We visited the Grand Palace the next day... it was hot hot hot but the architecture was beautiful! Makes you wonder how they built all those buildings without the canggih manggih machines and tools. Animal Orphanage

It was a boring Sunday afternoon, so we decided to head to the Animal Orphanage just next to the Nairobi National Park in Kenya. This is where all the orphaned baby animals whose parents have become the lion's main course (or appetiser, or dessert) are sent to grow up..

The ostrich has a furry and soft neck.. JS is frightened that his head will be pecked by the bird! Hehe..

How often would you be able to see this.. look closely and you will see the cheetah peeing!

Aww.. this baby leopard was found in Masai Mara all alone without its mummy... it's only 56 days old but it has super sharp claws and teeth! Lucky it didn't chew this finger off

This super fat and lazy warthog was rescued 5 years ago along with its brother (or sister, can't tell the difference). Its mum was eaten by a lion so the 2 babies were lost and alone. Now it wallows in mud all day, sleeps all day and gets fat all day..

Nairobi Safari Walk

We went over to Nairobi Safari Walk during the weekend and saw lots of cute animals... we also got to pet a cheetah! Pics below..

Golf, anyone?

Masai Mara

We went for a 2 day 1 night trip to Masai Mara - Kenya's most famous Reserve Park. The story follows below....



On our way there, we stopped by at the head of Mara river with the hopes of seeing hippos and there they were, lazing away in the sun, half submerged in the water!







We arrived at our camp.. it was hidden away in some bushes. There was no electricity so it was pitch dark at night with a kerosene lamp as the only light source. The tent wasn't bad; it was spacious and mosquito proof. The toilet however, was icky..dark and there were insects and ants crawling all over the floor :(












After settling the check-in into the tents, we went to visit a real life Masai village. Here's a picture of the son of the chief Masai.
Masais stay in houses made from cowdung.. it's pitch dark in there even during the day because the window is smaller than the size of your head :P they cook in there, sleep in there, *ahem* in there

Continuing with the safari...
Just around the corner from our camp were bushes - hideout of a whole pride of lions. We could hear them roaring at night when we took our showers *shiver*


The magnificent male.. look at that mane of hair! He's also a lazy bum who gets the lioness to do his hunting for him

A vulture flying away after it was chased from its lunch.. their take off is cute *run* *hop* *skip* *flyyyy*

Safari sights - Thomson gazelles and wildebeest enjoying the sun. People were actually teaching them how to speak Tamil..hmm.. new language? *hehe*

The trees and skies in Africa are absolutely beautiful... the contrasting colours are just wonderful. The blue... green.. *drool*

There are only 3 rhinos left in the whole of the Masai Mara game park so they are watched over by guards and are taken to shelters when night comes. They are quite tame and this is how close we can get to them.

On the way back, our van decided to break down. Apparently the radiator ran out of water and the pipes just disconnected *groan*.. Here, the driver is trying to pour some water into the radiator and it's squirting out like a fountain *die lah*


The driver now decides that he needs a whole bucketful of water to get the van moving again, so off he goes to the nearest river to get water; leaving us stranded beside the road in hyena territory!


These guys were having fun watching us by the side of the road.. they were taking care of cows just across the road. They must be wondering what was going on - are they going to stay?


Flowers by the side of the road.. the leaves of this plant are used as a traditional cure for flu - they smell invigoratingly good


Finally, the van radiator is working and we're on our way. Here's the bumpy road - it was worse than a ride on i-Gallop.. *bounce bounce bounce* don't be fooled by the pretty photo


While we continued on our way, we met the 2nd van which was stuck by the side of the road. The clutch was worn to bits and finally gave up.. the driver of the 1st van had to tow the 2nd van along to get it moving. Considering how dark it was, it was quite a scary ride, but an adventure nevertheless

We finally made it back in one piece, dirty, dusty but happy :)

Great sights at Lake Naivasha

We took 1.5 hours to complete the 5km trek.. walking across the savannah amongst the animals to reach our final destination - Lake Naivasha. On the way, we saw a herd of zebras running, elands grazing and a cute family of giraffes!

Went to Lake Nakuru in Kenya for beautiful safari sights.... it was wonderful to see animals grazing everywhere without a care in the world!
